Case Study - Brake Shoes
PPS began processing brake shoes in 1993, serving an automotive parts manufacturer experiencing damage to the corners and tabs of drum brake shoes. The damage was occurring due to a blast cleaning operation that randomly tumbled the shoes together and included the added stress of blast cleaning. PPS developed a process whereby the shoes were fixtured during the blasting process -- damage that had been accepted in the industry for years was eliminated. Parts per million loss due to damage at one customer went from over 1400 to 0.
PPS now provides this customized solution to other OEM brake shoe manufacturers. To make the process economical and efficient, PPS included the application of an adhesive shoe coating, which is the next process in the assembly of the drum brake. The process aids not only in improving the bond of the shoe to the brake shoe pad, but also inhibits rust.
As time past PPS was determined to build additional services and effeciencies, adding phosphating and cleaning to the solution. These operations occur in-line with the blasting and coating application. The complete PPS process is now a highly efficient, low cost drum brake shoe processing line boasting QS9000 Quality.
